My dream last night:
I am on a busy street; it’s definitely nowhere in the Caribbean I know.
A woman is on the street selling jewellery from a kind of stall outside a jewellery store. She comes up to me an puts this stunning red necklace around my neck saying, ‘It’s you. It’s you.’
The necklacke is bright red, long, with a pendant that drops between my breasts. The pendant is oval, and there is a fine tracing of blue and green running through it.
The woman tells me to go inside. I go in, curious to know how much it is. I recognise some of the women from my childhood, they work in jewellery stores in Barbados. I ask the price of the piece, they tell me and I am disappointed because I know I can’t afford it.
I unclasp the necklace from around my neck, and explain to them that I do not have the money for it.
The dream advances.
I am now, lying on a couch like, table like thing. I am still in the jewellery store. My eyes are closed and I am drifting in and out of sleep.
A father and his son come in to the store, and the son says something mean and disrespectful to his father. I sit up and reprimand the boy on the spot. The father as well for allowing his son to be so disrespectful. They both look surprised, then chagrined.
As I start to gather myself to move on, I apologise for staying so long and falling asleep, but both the ladies in the store tell me not to worry, they understood I was exhausted.
One of them pressed some money in my hand. I refused, saying I couldn’t take it, but she held my hand and pressed it in, folding my fingers around it telling me I needed it, and that I was a good soul.
They give me the beautiful red necklace.
The dream advances.
I am walking on a path, through the woods, and as I progress along a man made stone block wall of sorts, separating the stone foot path from the forest, and on which trees, shrubs and such come right up against, the woods disappearing over the edge and ascending in a hill up until the eye can no longer discern tree from shrub, I see an adult ‘critter’ and two young ones. I have to say ‘critter’ because I have never seen animals like this.
I could hear their thoughts. The adult said to the little ones, ‘Stranger!’ When they saw me, instead of running, they curled themselves into furry balls and hunkered down.
I stroked one of the babies and he raised his head to look at me. I dug out some kind of snack and one by one, all three of them unfurled and came for a stroke and part of the snack. I waved goodbye and off I went.
The dream advances.
I am walking in a suburban cul-de-sac.
I walk up to this house that is both familiar and unfamiliar.
The sea is raging, I can hear the crashing of it, just beyond a rim of trees.
I open the door and walk through the place. There is a little boy there, he tells me hello. There is a lady in the kitchen cooking, she tells me hello.
I walk through the house into the yard. The swimming pool is like none I have ever seen. The back fence is some kind of see through plastic, and the sea is sitting gently against it. The pool is sea water diverted and is also made of see-through plastic, and there is a space between the floor of the pool and white cemented casing below. The sea rushes between the space. The effect is like looking out on the sea, while it rushes around and underneath the pool. The water is clear, even the water of the sea against the back wall is clear. The pool is calm, but the water underneath it, between the pool’s encasing and the cement encasing is flowing.
I don’t remember anything else about the dream.
